Box Grove Community Festival - Aug 13, 2011

On Saturday August 13th, 2011, over 150 families from the Box Grove community attended our first community Festival. Showcased at the Boxgrove Community Centre, the Festival included a variety of games, contests, food and beverage venues, as well as information booths offering services to the local community.

Adults were enticed by the hourly draw prizes, silent auction treasures, dancing DJ tunes, and refreshing watermelon and apples kindly provided by our local Longo’s. McDonald’s offered chilled orange drinks, and Boston Pizza donated several delicious pizzas for Fair participants to enjoy at no charge. Those with a heartier appetite were treated to the fabulous burgers and hot dogs that Kelsey’s Restaurant generously grilled to perfection.

For the many children present at the Fair, Armadale Community Centre had constructed gigantic checkers and tug of war games for the most burly of children to test their strength against. Jai Sukhu of State Farm Insurance made it possible for the little ones to jump up, down, and up again, on a fun bouncy castle that kept them laughing. Several games were available for children to enjoy, including a fish pond, basketball toss, bean bag bowling and cup stacking race. Of course, all smiling participants received prizes for their effort and enthusiasm.

Local artisans swirled paint on faces and henna designs on hands. Crafts were available, a Welcome Wagon package for new home-owners, and thanks to PJ’s Pets, free samples of dog and cat food for the pet owners at the event!

With so much to offer and enjoy, the first Boxgrove Community Festival was a huge success because it brought the community together and gave all of us the opportunity to meet the neighbours that make this area of Markham a unique and welcoming place to live.
